You’ve got Cajun blood with its dark tides flowing What you think there’s just no knowing Forgotten French words they sound so sweet Oo, babe, you knock me off of my feet. Gotta’ handle you lightly, kid gloves all the time, Though you’re sweet like a baby tough most all of the time Like a wildcat on a leash or a bird in the hand Gotta’ tread lightly with your kind of man. I don’t know what it is that makes my hot blood rise Could it be those sleepy bedroom eyes? Bad boy brooding underneath your skin Tough as a warrior looking after his kin. T’es brute comme un cocodrie monté à terre Sois tu dépasse où t’arrives pas, dit ta mère, Il y a rien plus drôle que du monde, tu m’as dit Mais toi t’es mon bébé, t’es mon homme, t’es ma vie. (You’re rough as a crocodile who has come up on land You either go too far or you don’t quite arrive, says your mom, People are strange, so you say, But you are my baby, you’re my man, you’re my life.) Whiskey on your lips gives me a thrill You’re my man and I love you still Your dark eyes flash over the edge of your glass You’re my man, got a love that will last.

I know the way that I feel about you, I’m never gonna’ run away, I’m never gonna’ run away. Never knew the way when I lived without you, I’m never gonna’ run away, I’m never gonna’ run away. I came to you when no one could hear me, I’m sick and weary of being alone. Empty streets and hungry faces, the world’s no place when you’re on your own. A heart needs a home, a heart needs a home. Some people say that I should forget you, I’m never gonna’ be a fool, I’m never gonna’ be a fool. Better life they say, if I’d never met you, I’m never gonna’ be a fool, I’m never gonna’ be a fool. Tongues talk fire and eyes cry rivers, Indian givers, hearts made of stone. Sinking ships and painted faces, the world’s no place when you’re on your own. A heart needs a home, a heart needs a home. I came to you when no one could hear me, I’m sick and weary of being alone. Empty streets and hungry faces, the world’s no place when you’re on your own. A heart needs a home, a heart needs a home.

Dirty old river must you keep rolling, rolling into the night? People so busy, makes me feel dizzy, taxi lights shine so bright. And I don’t need no friends As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset I am in paradise. Every day I look at the world from my window Chilly, chilly is evening time Waterloo sunset’s fine. Terry meets Julie Waterloo Station every Friday night But I am so lazy, don’t want to wander, I stay at home at night. But I don’t feel afraid As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset I am in paradise. Every day I look at the world from my window Chilly, chilly is evening time Waterloo sunset’s fine. Every day I look at the world from my window Chilly, chilly is evening time Waterloo sunset’s fine. Fine, fine, fine…

Out in the country with the mud and the pigs, there won’t be no sequins tonight I thought I would have the time of my life, but there won’t be no sequins tonight No glitter, no glamour, no shots at the bar The only shots here are from shotguns in the yard No sparkling bubbly just a jug of cheap wine There won’t be no sequins tonight. Some boots made of rubber no high heels for me, there won’t be no sequins tonight And faded bluejeans where my black dress should be, there won’t be no sequins tonight Instead of fireworks at the palace for my kohl coated eyes There’s a little damp fire and some coals that have died I thought I would have the time of my life But there won’t be no sequins tonight, A torn red bandana instead of my pearls There won’t be no sequins No sparkling rhinestones or lustrous curls There won’t be no sequins tonight Instead of dancing at the disco with my sweet city beau I’ll be drinking with grandpa at his fais dodo I thought I would have the time of my life But there won’t be no sequins tonight No sequins on this New Year’s night. No sequins on this New Year’s night.

Stolen Car 04:41
I met a boy and we settled down’In a little house out on the edge of town. We got married, swore we’d never part Then little by little we drifted from each others’ hearts. At first I thought it was just restlessness That would fade as time went by and our love grew deep. In the end it was something more I guess, Tore us apart and made us weep. I’m driving a stolen car Out on Elridge Avenue Each night I wait to get caught But I never do. He asked if I remembered those letters I wrote When our love was young and bold He said last night I read those letters And they made me feel one hundred years old. I’m driving a stolen car On a pitch black night And I’m telling myself it’s gonna’ be all right I drive by night and I travel in fear That in this darkness I will disappear.

(Translation) It was on a sad Saturday A day that totally changed my life God got very angry And destroyed Grand Isle with his ocean. The ocean came in the night And it stole away our dear baby In spite of our tears and cries The sea continued on its path of destruction. On the boards from our destroyed house Among the dead we floated And then our darling last living son Was bitten by a serpent. Oh, yes, God, we were saved But without family, without hope When God in his might wants to send his waters Listen! Tremble! Don’t turn your back.

Time goes on my love Our hearts drift by like clouds above Meeting, merging, moving on, Melting in the day’s new dawn. Do you remember the sunset? Do you remember the sunrise? Do you remember the moonlight Shining in your lover’s eyes? Time goes on my love Our hearts drift by like clouds above Meeting, merging, moving on, Melting in the day’s new dawn. Do you remember your lover’s lips, The sweetness how it lingers? Do you remember your lover’s heart Slipping through your fingers? Do you remember the first embrace? Do you remember the last goodbye? Do your lips still know the taste Of the last tear that your lover cried? Time goes on my love Our hearts drift by like clouds above Meeting, merging, moving on, Melting in the day’s new dawn.

I hear the sound of footsteps, there’s no one around I feel a chill upon my spine, running up and down, up and down. Something’s got a hold on me, something’s got a hold Something that I cannot see, I feel dark and cold, dark and cold. I feel dark and cold, I feel dark and cold, Something’s got a hold. The breeze is blowing careful, the river’s scared to flow As if some lost secret’s dying to be told, to be told. Something’s got a hold on me, something’s got a hold Something that I cannot see, I feel dark and cold, dark and cold. I feel dark and cold, I feel dark and cold, Something’s got a hold. Something is a looming over in the fields I feel my heartbeat pounding, is it false or real, false or real? Something’s got a hold on me, something’s got a hold Something that I cannot see, I feel dark and cold, dark and cold. I feel dark and cold, I feel dark and cold, Something’s got a hold.

Tin Angel 03:32
Varnished weeds in window jars Tarnished beads on tapestries Kept in satin boxes are Reflections of love’s memories. Letters from across the seas, Roses dipped in sealing wax Valentines and maple leaves Tucked into a paperback. Guess I’ll throw them all away I found someone to love today. Dark with darker moods is he Not a golden prince who’s come From columbine and wizardry To talk of castles in the sun Still I’ll take a chance and see I found someone to love today I found someone to love today.

She fell in love with a swan Her eyes were filled with feathers He filled her with song. In the reedy river, In the reedy river. She in her boat long hours, He in his royal plumage She threw him some flowers. In the reedy river, In the reedy river. Black was the night and starry She loosened up her garments And let fall her hair. Sadly they mourned and sighed Whilst in evening twilight Two swans glide and fly O’er the reedy river, O’er the reedy river She fell in love with a swan Her eyes were filled with feathers He filled her with song. In the reedy river, In the reedy river. She fell in love with a swan.

Across the evening sky all the birds are leaving Ah, but how can they know, it’s time for them to go. Before the winter fire I will still be dreaming I have no thought of time. But who knows where the time goes, who knows where the time goes? A sad deserted shore, your fickle friends are leaving Ah, but then you know, it’s time for them to go. But I will still be here, I have no thought of leaving, I do not count the time. For who knows where the time goes, who knows where the time goes? And I am not alone while my love is near me And I know it will be so, until its time to go, So come the storms of winter, and then the birds in spring again I have no fear of time. For who knows where the time goes, who knows how my love grows?

about

For decades, Ann Savoy has been revered for her vibrant recordings and performances of Louisiana Cajun music, as well as for her unparalleled deep-digging into the history of southwest Louisiana's traditional music. Now we join her in a different musical adventure, Another Heart--the spiritual follow-up to her 2006 collaboration with Linda Ronstadt, Adieu, False Heart. With the magical touch of producer Dirk Powell, Savoy explores a wide array of musical influences that date back to her childhood and adolescence in Richmond, Virginia. Featuring several new originals alongside renditions of tunes by The Kinks, Donovan, Bruce Springsteen, Sandy Denny, and more, this album offers a glimpse into Savoy’s formative years and the sounds that set her on the path to become a cherished musical icon.
